The dance is a conversion of “Thomas Glover’s Reel” into a 5 couple dance.
Thomas Glover went to Japan and settled in Nagasaki, where he married a Japanese wife. The opera “Madame Butterfly” was thought to be inspired by the story of Thomas although he did not abandon his wife as Pinkerton did.
“One Fine Day” is a celebrated aria from the opera.
