Devised by Terry Lynne Harris, Pretoria, South Africa,; August 2002
In memory of my father, Frank Raymond Cathcart Harris (15/9/1918 - 29/6/1994)
Scapa Flow, an extensive anchorage in Scotland’s Okney Islands, was the base of the British Fleet during both the First World War (1914-1918) and the Second World War (1939-1945). My father was seconded to the British Royal Navy from the South Africa Armed Forces in 1944 and trained at Scapa Flow before seeing action in the Pacific.
The movements and figures of this dance are meant to represent ship’s wheels and the intertwining of ropes.
