Goldring’s original description in the Scotia Suite describes bars 5-8 as “1st couple followed by 2nd couple dance up to place.”; this could be read as “up the middle”. The later Leaflet Dances version says “… cast up to original places”.; i.e. outside the set.
Asked about these two versions, Christine Parker-Jones writes “As one of those lucky enough to have been taught to dance by Roy, I spent many a happy Saturday afternoon trying out his new dances prior to their publication. To the best of my knowledge and memory we always danced this dance by dancing outside the set back to place”.
