Ivy used to categorise dances by their title as ‘male’ or ‘female’ in order to remember who “went first”.
For example, “General Stuart’s Reel” is ‘male’ and the man starts the dance. When discussing “The
Wood of Fyvie”, published by Jack McConachie, Ivy indicated it was a ‘female’ dance because “Fyvie
includes Ivy.” That comment is the inspiration for this dance. The women always dance in front of
their partner and15t woman begins the sequence starting at bar 17.
