Dedicated to Leslie Dawes of Gleneagles Scottish Country Dance Club, West Vancouver and
Vancouver Branch.
Misprint. The dance description in the Highlander Collection vol 1 says that this is a Strathspey, but the music is a Jig. ETF 30 oct 2011
Malcolm Brown writes on the Strathspey List:
"The dance was first published in the Vancouver Branch Ruby Collection in
2005, where the accompanying tune is Gentle Shepherd.
It was then published in Simon’s own collection of dances as part of the
Branxholm Hall Suite / Lady in Red Collection in 2007, where again the tune
is Gentle Shepherd, and where Simon says “the dance was inspired by, and
written to the beautiful tune The Gentle Shepherd as recorded on St Andrews
Ball by Ron Kerr”, and where it is also described as a “32 bar slow jig”."
(As slow jigs go, the Ron Kerr recording in question is not particularly slow.)
