John Drewry noted in the original description:
“The Cock O’ the North” was a title applied to the Marquis of Huntly, the chief of Clan Gordon, because of his powerful role in the North-East of Scotland.
The tune is pre-eminently the Gordon pipe tune, and is now the Barch Past of the Gordon Highlanders.
