Penny Gay of the Penzance SCD Club wrote: The dance was written in 2002 to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the Club called Penzance Scottish Country Dancers. Hence the name PZ40.
However, we have also always liked the fact that there have been two boats with the Registration PZ40. One is a small fishing boat, often anchored in St Ives Harbour. But there used to be another boat registered as PZ40 - a Mounts Bay Lugger. There is a small oil painting in Penlee House Museum depicting the Lugger PZ40 battling through a stormy sea.
