The dance was originally devised so that after each sequence, not only do the dancers change partners and positions, but the rhythm also changes. However the “medley” could also be danced using only two rhythms, i.e. strathspey - jig (reel) - strathspey or jig (reel) - strathspey - jig (reel). Indeed, the “medley” could be danced with only one rhythm throughout - strathspey or jig or reel. The choice is up to you, but it is advisable to inform the dancers (and band) beforehand.
