Bars 1-4 of the RSCDS version has a single advance and retire. Ian’s website, https://www.scottishdance.net/dances/Book/ATripToLorient.pdf has advance and retire twice.
Ian writes: I intended the strathspey to be advance for one, retire for one twice - I really like this dynamic figure, whereas advance for two retire for two always makes me believe the set is too narrow. Unfortunately during publication by the RSCDS these bars were set to the same as the corresponding bars of the quick time, and I missed this during proof-reading.
ln the quick time, it remains advance for two, retire for two once.
The strathspey and reel parts each have progression 3142 and dancers may choose to repeat each part.
