Adrian writes: Dun Arisaig: 4x32 J for 4 couples in a longwise set. Dance intensity 75%. Standard - I’d say intermediate, although it does involve 8 dancers in  a St. Andrews Cross (i.e. an oblique diagonal cross, not right-angled, as in the flag of Scotland). This cross is formed in 4 bars, rotated halfway in 4 bars, and then dissolved in 4 more bars - so this dance is not for a crowded ballroom with close lines. The figures involving the cross are not so much difficult as unusual. In such cases less experienced dancers, with less certainty about how Scottish dances “should” go, may actually take to them more easily.
Dedicated to Ruth and Peter Thornton, of Liskeard, Cornwall
Recommended tunes: jigs suitable for marches, e.g. Pipe-Major Donald Maclean, played AABB.
