Mosi oa Tunya. meaning “The Smoke that Thunders”. and pronounced: Mawsi wa Toonyah. was the local name used for the falls when David Livingstone first saw them in November 1855. Livingstone called the falls ''Victoria Falls". after Britain’s Queen Victoria.
