Only a few doors away from where we were trialling The Waverley Suite’ dances, I hit a member of the Manorina melanocephala family - a Noisy Australian Miner - which was sitting in the road. By the time I had parked the car, there was a flock of Miners surrounding the injured bird and - it seemed - offering sympathy and advice. Whatever it was, their concern worked; when I left some hours later there was no sign of any mishap. It made me think that Scottish Country Dancers are like that flock of Miners - concerned for their fellow dancers within and without the set. In this dance you are with your partner for all but four bars, but even then you can keep an eye on each other!
