From the dance description: Ashlyns School, Berkhamsted, in whose splendid hall Berkhamsted Strathspey and Reel Club’s Annual Highland Ball has been held for many years, was originally The Foundling Hospital and as such it remained for 20 years. Founded by retired sea captain Thomas Coram in 1739 The London Foundling Hospital was originally in Bloomsbury, until in 1926 it temporarily moved to Redhill and then in 1935 after its completion to Ashlyns. The club member to whom this dance is dedicated, the late Lorna Brown, was a foundling at Ashlyns.
