»Devised as a tribute to our gracious Patron Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and dedicated to Robert H Mackay who suggested the title and the original tune.«
There is a typo in the tune title in the book – the place is called »Ardnilly« according to the original publication by Wm. Marshall.
The following notes were put forward by Andrew McConnell in the Fully Certificated Class at St Andrews Summer School 2012, Week 4:
##1-8:: 1st woman dances slightly in to begin to help phrasing. 1st couple should be dancing through women’s sidelines at end of bar 4 and covering until end of bar 8.
##13-16:: 1st couple as they are turning are slightly below 3rd couple, but must finish facing 3rd couple. 1st woman must be careful to avoid finishing facing 4th man.
##25-32:: At the end of the half reel of four, 1st couple must finish reasonably far apart from each other. The left hand turn is a wide, slow turn. On bar 32, 1st and 2nd men and 1st and 2nd women should cover as they dance out to the sidelines. 1st woman stays facing out to begin next turn.
Note (additional to the book and the Manual). collected by Helen Russell from staff teaching The Diamond Jubilee book at Summer School 2012.
4 1st couple should be on women’s sideline at the end of bar 4.
13 -16 To begin the turn, the man takes a long step down towards his partner. 1st couple finish shoulder to shoulder facing 3rd couple, not back to back, as stated in the original instructions.
21 -24 3rd couple need to remember to set and cross.
29 -32 This is a tum requiring short steps. At the end of this left hand turn the 1st woman may stay facing out ready to cast. 2nd couple need to remember to set and cross.
