I’ve been teaching SCD to 3rd- and 5th-grade classes this fall, and wanting to start with an easy dance with no partners and no progression that any number could do I devised the Edison Circle. (I’m teaching at the Edison School.) Here it is for anyone who’d like to try it. Original description submitted to Strathspey List on 8 Nov 2001. Edison Circle 4 x 32 J for any number of dancers in a circle, all facing the center 1-8: All dance hands round to the left and back to the right. (Younger children may do better with 8 bars to the left only.) 9-16: Facing the center, all advance and retire twice. 17-20: All dance spring points right, right, left, left, right, right, left, left. 21-24: All clap 8 times. 25-32: All dance 8 skip change of step clockwise.
