Ezekiel’s Wheel
An 88-bar Reel for Four Couples in a Square Set
Devised by: James Mungall
1-4: Women dance right hands across.
5-8: Women take left hands with their partners and balance in line (holding in right hands across position) (2 bars), then turn partners by the left (2 bars), putting men into the center.
9-12: Men dance right hands across.
13-16: Men take left hands with their partners and balance in line (holding in right hands across position) (2 bars), then turn partners by the left (2 bars), putting women into the center facing their partners.
17-32: Double Celtic Reel (17-20 Men and Women pass right shoulder (as for reel of four), Women dance clockwise 1/4 of the way around the set while Men dance 3/4 Left shoulder around each other to face partner, 21-24 Men and Women pass right should (as for reel of four), Men dance clockwise 1/4 of the way around the set while the Women dance 3/4 Left shoulder around each other to face their partner, 25-32 M+W repeat bars 17-24)
33-48: Dance straight into Schiehallion Reels
33-34 Women dance through their position and around to place vacated by partner WHILE Men pass left shoulder to position vacated by second corner;
35-36 Men cast to follow the same Woman (2 bars behind) WHILE Women pass left shoulder and continue to follow their partner (2 bars behind);
37-48 repeat bars 33-36 three times to finish in original places.
49-56: 1st and 3rd couples take partner with both hands and slip step to the opposing position (men passing back to back) (2 bars), turn partner once round with both hands (using slip step) (2 bars), slip back to original position (women passing back to back) (2 bars) turning again with both hands (using slip step) once around and to place (2 bars).
57-64: 2nd and 4th couples repeat bars 49-56
65-80: Grand Chain half way around, set to partners on bars 71 and 72, continue Grand Chain to place setting to partners on bars 79 and 80.
81-88: Eight hands around and back.
