According to the notes “Catherine de Barnes is the name of my local village and was once a small area of heath within Longdon Manor. It takes its name not as you may think from a Norman Lady but from the 12th century Lord of the Manor whose name was KETELBERNE. By the 17th century the name had been elaborated to Catherine de Barnes, and in the 19th century was known as CATNEY BARNES.”
