Drewry writes that the river Deveron is one of the major rivers of N.E Scotland. It rises in the hills N.W. of Alford and flows through Huntly being joined by the Bogie. Huntly Castle, home of the Clan Gordon chiefs, was built at this confluence. The Deveron reaches the Moray Firth between the towns of Banff and Macduff.
