This dance is a modified version of Wes Clindinning’s “ The Belfast Hornpipe ” devised in 1989. The only difference is bars 25-28 (Wes used set and cast for 1C), and thus also the direction of the butterfly turns in bars 29-32. This dance is dedicated to Wes, a superb teacher and fun dancer. This dance was ‘devised’ by Mel Briscoe during a Workshop by inadvertently changing the last 8 bars. However, that variant was so successful that it made it into a number of dance programs and crib collections… unfortunately under the wrong name “Belfast Hornpipe”. For example, the dance had been incorporated as "Belfast Hornpipe” in the Ball program at https://dances.e-cribs.org/var/RSCDS_Twin_Cities_Branch_27th_Annual_Grand_Ball.pdf . This has been corrected to “Wes Clindinning’s Hornpipe” in the meantime. The dance named "Belfast Hornpipe (New Way)” at https://dances.e-cribs.org/var/Cincinnati_Demo_Dances_2007-2008.pdf (there attributed to Mel Briscoe) seemingly also describes a variant of this dance, but with reversed directions of the two turns in the last 8 bars.
