Note: marked as 8x32, but with progression 2341. Error somewhere
I enjoyed the middle sections of ”Father Connelly’s Jig” very much, but as a beginner found its length and logic difficult to assimilate. So this as an attempt to create a standard length dance with a symmetrical opening round those 16 bars!
The opening 8 is a movement imitating the winding –up, aiming & firing of the medieval siege-engine after which it is named.( I had just seen a TV program on siege war-fare) & this clicked exactly with the dance name, which, unusually I had already picked at random from a dictionary…….such is the creative process!
I thought it best to arrange that after the fun of the middle 16, everyone who would restart was static & able to concentrate on this new figure !
