When teaching a Diamond Poussette to first year dancers, it is hard to find a dance that doesn’t have multiple foot changes to deal with. This is one of the more challenging formations for new dancers and, try as I might, the only dances that I could find that came close were “The Lammermuir Hills” and “The Walled Garden” (by that magic devisor Roy Goldring), but these two also had foot changes. This straightforward dance was devised especially for our new dancers at the Lower Hutt Club to practice an all-round strathspey Poussette without having to deal with a foot change at all.
Devised in October 2016, which is spring in New Zealand. The end of the dancing season is approaching and our New Dancers are starting to try more difficult formations. Earlier in the year, Damon and I had a trip to the UK and found ourselves in the Lammermuir Hills in Scotland walking through some “Flowering Heather” which was very beautiful. A day to remember - so this dance is also a reminder of that very day.
