Cailín Rua (COLL-een ROO-ah) is Irish Gaelic for “red-haired girl” and the name of a song by Cucanandy, which Katherine listened to often around the time she had a flame-point Siamese cat named Fiona, her red-haired girl.
The Giacolettis commissioned the tune (
Katydid
) as a donation to Pinewoods Camp, and the title is a childhood nickname Katherine’s mother often used for her.
