Inspired by Morgan’s poem: “For The Opening of the Scottish Parliament, 9 October 2004” The name of the dance is taken from the opening line and of the tune from the last. The dance is suitable for the opening of a Scottish Dance programme allowing dancers of any age or ability to join in. The music highlights the joy and optimism of the poem, with some descending musical reference to mimic Morgan’s trip, “down the mile, into the heart of the city”. There is occasional syncopation to interrupt the flow, suggesting the political missteps that Morgan warns against.
