My wife Olga McIntosh found a dance with a connection to our new local area:
Leasowe Castle
. Leasowe Castle is at the coast end of the Wirral. IT HAS GLIDE SYMMETRY! This is the transformation that maps a right footprint onto a left footprint and is much less common in SCD than parallel, mirror or anti-parallel reels.
This has inspired me to write a dance featuring reels with this symmetry. It’s based on
Catch the Wind
and is named for our local zero-waste shop (which unfortunately closed down after its move to the new fancier market building - be careful when naming dances after things in case it’s bad luck!).
Note about role terms: if you and your partner face up toward the band, the Lark is on the Left and the Raven is on the Right.
