Notes from the deviser: I have fond memories from my time in Florida, contra dancing with the Tampa Bay Friends of Old-Time Dance. Contra and Scottish Country Dancing are cousins, sharing some structure and terminology, while differing in footwork and progression. Like contra, this dance is for two couples and features from overlap between the two dance forms (even if only in name – a contra allemande is quite a different thing!). The biggest commonality between contra and SCD is the friendly culture of the dancers, who joyfully welcome new dancers on both sides of the Atlantic.
