I specially devised this dance for a Scottish country dance discovery class, held during an American contra dance weekend in Normandy, in May 2023. The dancers were complete beginners in Scottish country dance steps but advanced contra dancers. I decided to use well‐known formations in these two types of dances (even if they may have different names as “hey” for “reel of four”) and to leave the dancers free to choose, in reel time, between birling or swinging (which is a typical contra dance formation). This dance is dedicated to Laurette Tuckerman who is the “orchestra conductor” of contra dance in France and organized this wonderful weekend of dancing.
