The youtube notes explain the dance:
The first thing that came to my mind when reading the theme ‘Steps into the future’ was the impact of climate change and the danger that rising sea levels will pose in the future, especially for people living in coastal regions such as myself. This gave me the idea of filming on my home island of Foehr and using the tides to visualise a future shaped by climate change.
While writing a dance to symbolise this, we chose figures relating to extreme weather such as the Snowball Chain and the Typhoon, which can also take unexpected forms (mirror Typhoon). Furthermore we wanted to include figures that are getting increasingly difficult to dance in rising waters to show the severity of the situation and that there is little chance of being able to carry on as if nothing’s changing.
We hope this video helps to raise awareness about the effects of global warming while also showing that we can still accomplish our goals by working together as a team.
