Summary of a discussion on “Strathspey” in november 2013: This dance is known as “Good Hearted Glasgow” but also as “The Good Hearted Glasgow Jig”. The deviser, Peter Knapman, explains (thanks to Andrew Smith for sharing):
"The reason for the confusion [about the correct name] arose as a result of why the dance was originally written! The Greater Glasgow Health Board ran a campaign in 1988 where they organised a series of easy and accessible forms of exercise under the general title of ‘Good Hearted Glasgow’ - one of these exercise activities being country dancing. Hence, they needed a fairly straightforward Scottish country dance which became known as Good Hearted Glasgow or to distinguish it from other GHG exercise activities 'The Good Hearted Glasgow Jig. The original leaflet shows the title with the ‘the’ and the ‘jig’ in a lesser typeface.
As far as the SCD world is concerned it has always been known simply as ‘Good Hearted Glasgow’ - the Bobby Brown LP is the only time the full title has been used.
So take your pick - I would simply use Good Hearted Glasgow as that is what most SCD sources use - but if you wish to use its Sunday title then that’s fine - as long as you enjoy dancing the dance select which ever title you prefer."
