Haste To The Wedding
The composer of “Rule Britannia”, Dr Thomas Augustine Arne (1710–1778),
wrote a song called “Come, Haste to the Wedding”.
It is altogether possible that, though English, this song may be the one to which the dance refers.
It was not uncommon for English songs to be popular in Scotland in the 18th century
and one of Dr Arne’s songs, “Water Parted from the Sea”,
was included in James Johnson’s
The Scots Musical Museum
, Volume 1, 1787.
