This dance is almost identical to
The Blue Loch

, but ending with a Poussette instead of an Allemande.
Linton Ploughman
In the Borders, about six miles south of Kelso, near Morebattle, is the village of Linton.
The ancient church with its Norman font had an interesting, and probably untrue, story attached.
Over the doorway of Linton’s church is a carved stone panel
on which are carved animals and a mounted St. George.
Legend has it that St. George represents Sir John Somerville,
a local laird who was knighted by William the Lion (1143–1214)
for slaying either a “ravening beast” or a “laidly worm”,
either or neither of which could have been a dragon.
The death of the beast was reputedly brought about by the laird stuffing a burning peat down its throat.
This sounds hardly chivalrous and not in the style of St. George, but it makes an amusing story.
