The Maid Of The Mill
In 1765 Isaac Bickerstaffe (1735–1812),
an Irish writer of plays, comic operas and burlesques interspersed with songs,
produced in London his
The Maid of the Mill
, based on
Pamela
, the novel by Samuel Richardson.
It is possible that this very popular play
may have been the inspiratioon for the dance and the tune of the same name.
