Inscribed “A dance for the Atholl Club in Edinburgh”.
The notes explain that:
The idea for the title of this dance came from Robert Bain’s “Clans and Tartans of Scotland” (Collins).
Under “Murray of Atholl” it says “Crest Badge: A mermaid holding in her dexter hand a mirror and in the sinister a comb all proper”.
Bill Clement, a piper in the Duke of Atholl’s private army, tells me that this is all wrong and that the figure on the crest is a mannikin!
