“If they wad drink nettles in March And eat muggons in May, Sae mony braw maidens Wadna gang tae the clay”. According to https://www.dsl.ac.uk/entry/snd/muggins muggons or muggins are Scottish dialect for mugwort which, along with nettles, was used as a prescription against tuberculosis. The notes explain that “bars 17 - 24 are taken from an adaptation of Hooper’s Jig for four couples that I made for demonstration purposes. They seemed interesting enough to exist in a dance of their own.”
