The dance has sometimes been misnamed “Dumfries Octocentenary Jig”. The error arose from misreading the following text section in Drewry’s description:
"THE OCTOCENTENNIAL JIG
to mark the eight hundredth anniversary of Dumfries as a Royal Burgh
dance devised by John Drewry
Jig - 3 couples - 32 bars.
Tune - “lain J. McConnell of Solway” - by McGowan
this tune and three other new tunes are played on the DUMFRIES OCTOCENTENARY record (Heather Sound Company No. LS020)"
