Note that the original description of this dance stipulates a type of chain progression that differs subtly from the one in common usage (the back of the book has notes and pictures for two different styles of chain progression, for strathspey time and quick-time dances). This seems to be widely underappreciated and the description of the chain progression in the RSCDS
