Torryburn Lassies
Torryburn is a village in Fife, not far from Culross, on the Firth of Forth.
One lass born in Torryburn was Alison Cunningham, “Cummy”,
the strong-willed, staunchly Calvinist nurse to the young Robert Louis Stevenson, “my laddie”.
In 1885, Stevenson remembered the nurse who hat exerted such a profound influence upon him
by dedicating to her
A Child’s Garden of Verses
.
