Devised in 1978 for Simon Fraser of Courage Farm, Nairn
The nearest village to Courage Farm is Auldearn. The name “Auldearn” is said by some authorities to mean the “Burn of the Alder Tree” - Hence the name of this dance. The name “Nairn” means “The Alder Tree”. W.J.Watson in his book “The History of the Celtic Place Names of Scotland” says that “Auldearn” derives from the Gaelic “Alit Eireann” and means “Ireland’s Burn”,
