For a few months in the winter of 1989-90 I taught a small mixed-level class in Stratford, Ontario. Wishing to introduce the beginners to strathspey travelling, I sought a dance which did not contain any setting or circles. Unable to locate one at the time, I devised this dance en route to the class. Since the River Avon flows through Stratford, and the dance also flows smoothly, the title seems appropriate.
