In the dance notes the deviser writes that it "was devised for introducing reels of three in a beginners class. The dance works well in a three couple set, since only the 1st couple starts and the reel is not the first or last figure.
The name of the dance came from an old Scottish Borders myth about a brownie. The brownie’s name was Aikendrum, the Brownie of Blednoch, from a poem of that name by William Nicholson."
