For this dance the deviser writes after the instructions:
I see in the face of my partner a transcending of personality, of posture, a graciousness of gesture. A tiIt of the head and a light in the eye are all part of THE DANCE.
In the Jigs and Reels the feet take on wings and the body becomes more supple as the music lift them up.
In the Strathspey the ladies in their ball finery raise hands with a delicate air to meet those of their partner, in their mind’s eye all are Ladies and Gentlemen and part of a scene of elegance and courtly mannerisms.
No longer the cares of the day intrude, the too many inches around the waist, the Setting step that won’t come together, all is transformed, and there is a gratefulness to fellow dancers for each and every shared transcended moment.
