1c+2c dance ‘The Surge’: To start, 1c+2c face each other NHJ as for the Rondel. 1-2 1c+2c NHJ advance {1}, retire {1}, 3-4 1c dance down to 2pl while 2c separate and dance up to 1pl, both C ending BHJ in the middle for, 5-6 2c+1c turn BH, 7-8 Pulling Rsh back, all cast out to their own sidelines (similar to ‘Argyll Strathspey’, bars 7-8) to order 2,1.

Dedicated to the members of the First Fortnight Teacher’s Certificate Class, RSCDS Summer School 2000, St. Andrews. The ‘Surge’ progression, in particular, is for Ralph Stoddard (and his tea-cup) and Blaine Peet. Having been written for candidates, the dance is probably most fun in a fairly large set.
