This dance was originally named Jean McKelvie’s (Arran) Jig.
The original copy of the dance description, held by the Ayrshire Branch, has the following annotation written by hand at the end by the late Alistair Aitkenhead, Branch founder member and highly respected dance teacher. These amendments (ratified as correct by Alastair MacFadyen, President RSCDS, verbally, in 2019) are:
Change of name to THE ROUND ARRAN JIG effective May 1988.
Bars 65-68 All four ladies RIGHT (NOT left) hands across
Bars 69-72 All four men LEFT (NOT right) hands across ……………ladies on the outside facing in ANTI clockwise (NOT clockwise) direction………
At the end “Second time round dance off”
